Make sense of your APS

What your Admission Point Score tells you, and what else you need to check.

What is an APS?

An Admission Point Score is one way an institution can summarise school achievement when considering an application. It is a useful starting point for comparing your results with a programme’s stated requirements.

There is no single rule for every programme

Institutions and programmes may use different scoring methods. The subjects they count, the way they treat Life Orientation and any subject weightings can differ. Use the method in the official prospectus for the specific qualification and study year.

Read beyond the total

A programme may require particular subjects at particular achievement levels, along with assessments, a portfolio or other selection criteria. Meeting a minimum score does not guarantee an offer.

  • Check your qualification and the intended year of entry.
  • Check the scoring formula and which subjects it includes.
  • Check Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy rules carefully.
  • Read any extra subject or selection requirements.
  • Confirm uncertain details with the admissions office.

Use a score to plan your questions

Add your subjects in the learner workspace to help organise your results. Treat general calculations and programme matches as preparation guidance. Confirm eligibility with the institution before you commit to a choice or pay a fee.
